Rome was not built in a day, and so was Splashy Charm. Tucked in the city of Bangalore in Yelachenahalli, a sublime make-up studio and academy was opened in 2016. The person behind this feat was a simple woman from a village in Bangalore, who went on to dream big.
Meet Sowmya, the successful make-up artist, who showed the world how to dream by opening the successful make-up academy – ‘Splashy Charm’. Dedicated and passionate in what she does, Sowmya has been appreciated for her work by thousands. When she spoke to ‘rageNyou’, the adorable make-up artist turned entrepreneur, shared her incredible story of success.
Just like any common person, Sowmya was an MBA graduate in HR and Marketing, and went on to work with many top companies like Accenture. Although she was offered good jobs with good pay, this secret lover of makeup then, was not satisfied. Later on, she decided to do justice to herself by following her heart!
She began researching online about make-up, and this went on for 5 years until she quit her job and decided to shift to the ‘City of Dreams- Mumbai’. Her fervour along with her distaste to be accountable to be someone, led her to follow her passion in make-up. She travelled all the way to Mumbai by herself, and pursued a make-up course under Mr. Cherag Bambboat, at Magical Makeovers.
Lady luck struck her since then, along with her hard work! Sowmya began to be noticed for her skills while she went off for events and other assignments with Cherag. And that is how she bumped onto ‘Mirror’, one of the biggest make-up brands in Hyderabad which was also the official make-up partner for IIFA Utsavam, 2016.
Sowmya was approached by them at the very same event, although she had the course by Cherag to complete back in Mumbai. After IIFA, she went on to be a part of many shows and events, and finally shifted back to Bangalore after her course. With a standing offer from Mirror, she once again chased her dream to Hyderabad for a few months.
And that is when bad luck struck in the form of a typhoid! That, along with her distaste to be under someone, eventually led her back to Bangalore. Further, she got hospitalized; but it did not weigh down the spirit of this dreamer.
Sowmya began doing freelance make-up and had students from across Bangalore coming to her apartment. Simultaneously, she began being a part of photoshoots and that is how she made her mark in the fashion industry. She went on to meet and work for models and celebrities like Anisha Ambrose.
Nothing has stopped this tigress since then! Sowmya has been a part of many events like the ‘Jio Sim Launch’ (Mumbai, 2015), ‘Miss Thane Show’ (2015), ‘IIFA Utsavam’ (Hyderabad, 2016), and ‘The Walk’ (Bangalore, 2016); she was the make-up artist as well as the team lead in all these shows. ‘rageNyou’ is really proud to share this truly inspiring story of this incredible person.
