Q. What was your journey so far, as in from a village girl to being a model, and now to a leading actress?
A. I am from a village called Sakleshpura in Karnataka. After graduation, my parents wanted me to take up a government job, but my aspiration was to be an actress. I knew that the only way to achieve that is by getting a gateway to modelling. I used to make use of small opportunities in small shows. Then later when I shifted base to Bangalore, a bigger platform, it was totally new for me. And that’s when I met Naveen Kumar from Citybespoke, who launched me for a show in Indranagar (Bangalore). I did 14 shows in the span of 20 months, out of which, I was the showstopper for 11 shows. Today I walk only for Naveen and I’m also the brand ambassador for Citybespoke. After walking the ramp for him several times, I was given many opportunities to be an actress, and that’s when I auditioned and grabbed my first platform as an actress- ‘KK’. Manju Daivagna was the director and he launched me in Sandalwood, although it was a small role. Then I got the opportunity to be the lead in ‘HaaluThuppa’(2017). Ever since I never looked back, and today I have 8 projects in 1 year, and most of them as lead roles.
Q. How have you grown as an actress till now?
A. From the first, I never really had a camera fear as such. This might be because I used to do a lot of groundwork from the days I aspired to be an actress. I used to practise acting and do other homework. And due to my modelling background, audience and camera were not fear factors to me. For my first movie, I did a song in 3 days, and realized it was not just like any other co-curricular activity I used to do in school. For my second movie, I took 2-3 takes as I was the lead and I faced the real atmosphere of a movie and there were lengthy dialogues too. I started getting exposure to various movies and teams, and now I do a scene in only 1 take.
Q. Do you have a specific taste while choosing a script?
A. I am very particular about my script. Since I am from a village background my main interest lies in village oriented roles. I also look into the team and their experience. My next main focus is whether it is best for the audience and is of the present trend.
Q. Which movie was your best experience and why?
A. ‘Seethamma Bandalu Siri Mallige Thottu’ is my favourite of all.Since there was no hero, and being a woman-oriented film, I had a scope to showcase my performance. It was also traditional-oriented.
Q. Which is your upcoming project and what is your role in it?
A. My upcoming project is ‘Seethamma…’ and I play the role of a widow who faces a lot of challenges in that particular village.
