Vignesh Vaidya, a budding photographer who kick-started his career in photography right after a trip to London, where he identified his photography skills with the help of one of his family friends. An engineering graduate, but one who’s always moved in the line of creativity, when got to know his inborn talent, he blindly gave it a shot. He started his own company called the photopsee, where he uploaded photos of various genres. As he kept clicking photographs, he came up with a unique idea of portraying the period time, precisely the retro-themed fashion dating back to the 1960’s that has lost its essence in the present era. It is not just the dressing, but the different elements surrounding the various kinds of people.
In this photo series, he depicts four different life-styles of people – the first picture showcases a maid who when busy at her job runs to a mirror and as she looks into the mirror, she falls in love with her. Her outfit, i.e. the robe along with her apron and the gloves, takes us back to the Cinderella days.
The second picture showcases working women, which in the earlier years were stereotyped – it is believed that women in those days were tough nuts to crack, the shrewdness can be well seen in the way she carries herself and that boldness in her intense stare. Her formal outfit gets along with that exquisite surrounding, the table with intrinsic carvings and the dial-telephone, other-wise the off-hook alarm that can no longer be seen in this era.
The third image, as one can see is a young entrepreneur, who luxuriates himself with a glass of wine to de-stress after a tiring day. His exposure to his work can be linked with the amount of books he reads, displayed in the rack beside him and nevertheless, his body language shows it all.
The final image is a woman whose wait for the return of her prince charming is never ending. Gramophone, a vintage musical instrument – her body is flooded with the music, and as she drowns into it, she feels the presence of her heartthrob right next to her.
Through all these pictures, one element that is being highlighted is the dressing sense of the different classes of people, a classy and sophisticated way of life lived by individuals during the 1960’s, be it a casual or a formal, alongside their surrounding that is spick and span.
